HELLFEST - Clisson, France

Slash was one of the last bands to be added to the bill of the Hellfest.
His band played no less than four concerts in a row in France: They opened for AC/DC in Nice and Paris, then they played the Hellfest, and the next day Slash did a headlining show in Paris.

What a pleasure to see this guy on stage. As you might know, I’m a big Guns’N’Roses fan, but this one only the second time I was seeing Slash on stage! I never saw Velvet Revolver or Slash Snakepit.

My previous Slash concert was almost 18 years earlier and it was my first hard rock concert ever: Guns’N’Roses in Bogota in 1992!

Slash played an hour of pure rock’n’roll. He chose well his musicians: a groovy rhythm section, a good second guitar player, and a singer who could easily reach high and low notes.

Highlights of the show were of course the Guns’N’Roses songs included in the setlist.

Some people came to ecstasy during Civil War, we all headbanged during Nightrain, Rocket Queen left us breathless, we were delighted by Sweet Child O’Mine, and of the climax was an energetic version of Paradise City.

It was a very enjoyable show. Slash is back with a band of his own, and that’s great news in the world of Rock’n’Roll!

On the negative side, I missed KISS and Exodus at the Hellfest’s third day because of him: I went back to Paris right after Alice Cooper to see Slash at the Bataclan.

That’s right, you can’t have it all, but Slash in a small club won’t certainly not happen soon again. Moreover, there was a jam with Alice Cooper there... Something we all were expecting at the hellfest, but which finally happened indoors the next day!
