To me, Pretty Boy Floyd are one of the finest Hollywood glam rock bands ever! They're very underrated, their music is simply amazing.
The thing is that they only published one album during the 80's, the excellent Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz.
Not long after, the 90's began and grunge became the favoutite music genre of the record companies. Pretty Boy Floyd split, like most glam bands at that time, due to lack promotion and record contracts.
During the 90s Pretty Boy Floyd reunited but the buzz was gone. The band split again but the good news is that the band is active in 2010 and keeps touring North America and, less often, Europe. |

After a gig a the Stockholm Rock Out Festival, a European tour with L.A. Guns was organized and so Pretty Boy Floyd were playing in France for the first time!
I took the train to the city of Savigny Le Temple, and Pretty Boy Floyd were about to play.
Not many people were attending, but there was definitely a party atmosphere! |

Pretty Boy Floyd line-up was composed of original members Steve "Sex" Summers on lead vocals and Kristy "Krash" Majors on lead guitars.
On bass we had Criss 6,
a previous mamber of the Mötley Crüe tribute band True 2 Crue, who has been in Pretty Boy Floyd since early 2009.
On drums... it was a bit confusing.
Troy Patrick Farrell played his final show with Pretty Boy Floyd in Stockholm in September 2010. He was replaced by Vic Foxx, who has played with The Veronicas, Dokken, Vince Neil and Enuff Z'nuff.
But for some unknown reason, Vik Foxx was not playing Pretty Boy Floyd tonight. L.A. Guns drummer Chad Stewart was behind the drumkit tonight. |
|
Playing two shows in a row during a whole European Tour seems like an easy job to him: Chad Stewart did the same in January, when he played with Enuff Z'Nuff and Faster Pussycat each night.
That's a professional drummer, but I'm sure he's got to be exhaust when the tour is finished!

The Leather Boyz arrived on stage with their electric toyz and sat the night on fire with their Rock'n'Roll!
Although there were not much lights and the sound wasn't that good, the band convinced the audience very quick!
It didn't took long for evryone to start headbanging, dancing or singing the melodies! |
|
There were a few die-hard Pretty Boy Floyd fans who sang and knew all the songs they played.
But most people came for L.A. Guns and were discovering Pretty Boy Floyd tonight... and I could see that they had a pleasant surprise!
They gained a lot of new fans and the proof is that Pretty Boy Floyd CDs were sold-out at the merch stand! |

The setlist was mostly based of the band's first and best known album, Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz. The Last Kiss and Only The Young were the only songs from that album that were not played.
They also included the song Saturday Night from the album Porn Stars and ended with the Beastie Boys cover Fight For Your Right To Party.
Some of the best moments of the show were Wild Angels, Rock and Roll (Is Gonna Set The Night On Fire), and the guitar solo from Toast Of The Town... which is actually a Mötley Crüe cover song! You can find it on their very rare first release, Stick to Your Guns, or easier, on the remastered version of the album Too Fast for Love.
Read here an interview with former bass player Vinnie Chas (RIP) on how Mötley Crüe inspired them. |

The show went on really fast but all the musicians on stage seemed to enjoy the show.
Steve Summers had a Vodka bottle which he emptied during the show... But I actually think it was water... moreover, everytime he opened a beer he gave it to the fans in the first rows. |

Pretty Boy Floyd did great as an opening band. They can come and do a headlining show anytime they want!
To me, they were the best band of the evening!
Now, it was time for a legendary band to take over the stage... L.A. Guns!
