The Pelourinho is Salvador’s old town, with many colonial churches and buildings. It’s on a hill above the rest of the town. You can access it by car but also by stairs or by the Lacerda Elevator, located in front of the port and the Mercado Modelo.
It was raining when we visited so sadly my pictures are not as colourful as they should have been. |

This Rococo church is called Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos or Our Lady of the Rosary of Black People.
It was built in the 18th Century by the Brotherhood of Our Lady Of The Rosary of Pelourinho's Black People. This was one of the first black people confraternities created in Brazil. |
