Remember that Ozzy Osbourne song called "Road To Nowhere"? This is how you feel when driving in the Desert! |
|
After visiting The Monastery we headed on the road again towards Taba.
Our driver was a very nice guy. We could talk with him about a lot of subjects; he was very open minded and talked a lot about almost everything.
He told us he has lot of Russian friends and that he would love to go to Russia, on vacation maybe even to live.
He says it’s too warm in Egypt and that he would love to see the snow and feel that cold somewhere in his life. |

The road is full of checkpoints and you have to get your passport ready for controls every 50 to 100 kilometers.
Some people are afraid of this, and indeed it can be quite annoying, but it’s for security purposes in a area that has already been targeted by terrorists attacks.
Personally, I prefer to have a lot of checkpoints than being targeted by bad people.

The incredible thing about the coastal Road is that on the Egyptian shore of the Aqaba Gulf there is hardly a place in front of the beach where you don’t see a hotel, either functioning or being built.
The landscape is still beautiful but sadly quite spoiled on the shores of the sea. Well, tourism is a big industry in Egypt but it doesn’t bring only good things. |

We stopped in Nuweiba to have lunch.
Nuweiba is another big city in the Sinai, with a few hotels and other facilities.
Few tourists visit this place, but it’s actually an important Red Sea Port.
If you want to go to Petra, this is the place where you take the ferry to Aqaba in Jordan. |
|
We only stayed in Nuweiba for a couple of hours, just the time to have lunch and have a nice talk. |
