Dahab is also a tourist town with many international hotels around.
But there is one main difference: There was a city here before and there is a real local population.
It’s a city that existed before tourism.
Tourism industry in the Sinai Peninsula is ruled by people from Cairo, yet you find in Dahab local families, mostly Bedouins, for whom tourism is not their main activity. |

One day we went to the Blue Hole by bike. It was a long way to get there, maybe an hour, but the ride is definitely worth. But when we got to the Blue Hole we were absolutely disappointed. The Blue Hole is a very well known dive site where you can see a lot of marine species but...it’s also a tourist trap! Restaurants are overpriced, you can hardly enjoy your swim as there’s almost more people than fishes swimming, and the streets and shores are dirty and full of garbage. If it’s your first time diving or snorkelling the place is OK. If you want some quality diving or snorkelling, well, there are a lot of other fine places around, cleaner and more quiet. |
