Let’s get a little softer on this Thrash Metal day.
After a great show by Megadeth, it was time for Tarja to perform at the Sonisphere Festival.

It’s been ages since the last time I saw Tarja Turunen on stage… It was with Nightwish at the Elysée Montmartre in 2002.

Well, to be honest I don’t know how Tarja came to have such a high position at the festival bill.

Most other bands were Thrash Metal with Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax and Metallica, with some Death Metal from Loudblast and some Heavy Rock from Volbeat.

But the audience seemed to appreciate, as lots of people gathered in from of the stage for Tarja’s concert.

The stage set was very original: Mike Terrana’s drum was not in the center, but on a platform on the right side.
On the left side, there was Max Lilja on cello.

Bass player Kevin Chown has been replaced by Doug Wimbish, who’s got a groovy style that contrasts with the lyrical style of the band.

I was very pleased to see Tarja perform the song Stargazers, one of my absolute favourite Nightwish songs.

The band also played Over the Hills and Far Away, a Gary Moore song that that was given a second youth by Nightwish.

Tarja really is a good performer on stage.
Not only her vocal lines can be impressive, but also her stage performance was awesome.

She made the audience sing, headbang and clap their hands, even the thrashers.

I'm pretty sure she even made a few people cry!

I don’t think many people came to Sonisphere Festival just to Tarja and her band, but for the people who had never seen her live, like me, it was a good discovery.

Now, it was time for the last band of the festival, and the most awaited one: Metallica!
