Oh Mighty Cheops, Khefren and Mykerinos!
We spent a whole day in Giza, from 9 am to 6pm.
A lot of people would ask…What for? Well, let me tell you that we were there for the whole day and we didn’t even visit everything!

Last time I was in Cairo was in 2002 with my Grand-Mother. We were travelling as part of a package tour and they simply dropped us at the entrance of the Giza Plateau, the bus waited for an hour, then they drove to the sphinx and finally to a scenic viewpoint.
All in all, we stayed around the pyramids for less than a couple of hours. That’s how most tourists visit the pyramids (and most of the places they visit, by the way). Well, that’s also why I don’t travel with package tours! |
|
I like taking my time, to explore, to read and learn about the place I’m visiting while I’m there…
There’s nothing like getting there when you want, stay as long as you want, and not being in a hurry because there’s another site to visit or because we have to get to the hotel someone forgot someone something.
So yes, there’s a lot to visit in and around the pyramids and a whole day might not even be enough. At least for us. |

Picture beside: There are no more desert caravans around, only tourists. Still, the landscape is unbelievable. |

Pizza Hut sponsoring the Second Pyramid!
Just in front of one of the Gizeh entrances you have a KFC and a Pizza Hut. As we were already having almost a shawarma overdose, we got a pizza before returning to the archaeological site. |
