Alcatraz Metal Festival

I arrived to the Alcatraz Metal Festival during the band Emperors Of Deacay, but things started to get really serious with Helstar.

This was the only concert in Belgium of Helstar's Summer Of Hate European Tour.

I was really excited, we don't get many chances of seeing this band. To me, the only previous time was in 2002.

Helstar show started with a short intro, followed by Angels Fall To Hell.

Their energy and their Heavy / Thrash metal was a great way to start the day!

As they were playng the main stage, they had good lights, but couldn't use the whole lightshow.
The sound was not really good, but still OK.

Despite their short hair, guitar players Rob Treviño and Larry Barragan headbanged during most of the show, while playing fast solos and riffs.

Bass player Jerry Abarca has been dealing with health problems so he was not performing on this tour.
Slovenian bass player Matej Sušnik filled Jerry's space with brio!
Matej's style is impressive! He plays only with his fingers, sometimes using slapping.
He's really fast, keeping the tempo with drummer Mickey Lewis.

James Rivera did great, inviting people to clap their hands and to get their fists in the air.
When he wanted us to scream, he moved his arms like if he was fighting.

James asked us if we were ready to go back to school. School? Yeah! He meant we better be ready for some old school Helstar songs into the setlist!

James Rivera stated that Helstar was very proud of their latest record, so they'll finish their set with a song from the new album.
He stated that it was the perfect song to play when inviting grand mother for dinner.
And what was the name of the song? Alma Negra!

After Helstar, I checked a few songs from Izegrim, before another great band not often seen on stage: Forbidden.
