Burning Rain Epic Obsession album cover

The wait is over! The third Burning Rain album, Epic Obsession, is finally here.

For those who have forgotten them, or hadn't had the chance to know them, Burning Rain is the band of guitar hero Doug Aldrich and singer Keith St John.
They published a great self titled first album back in 1999, which was followed by Pleasure To Burn in 2000.
Doug was hired afterwards by Dio and then joined Whitesnake, so the future of Burning Rain remained uncertain.

More than 10 years have passed and now that Whitesnake is taking a break, it was the perfect moment to release the third Burning Rain record.

Epic Obsession captures all the elements that built Burning Rain's reputation: well worked riffs, virtuoso solos, a melodic voice and many choruses. Like a good wine that remained some time in the cellar, it's a pleasure to listen to this record.

There's definitely a particular energy and one can feel that Doug and Keith are happy to work together again. Oh, and they were very productive: there are 73 minutes of music in total. There are 12 songs and 2 bonus tracks: an acoustic version of the song Heaven Gets Me By and a great cover version of Led Zeppelin's Kashmir.

Burning Rain songs are not the average bluesy Hard Rock style. It's not that easy. For example, the choruses won't be repeated on and on. As a result, not many songs remain in the head after listening only once. But listening to this record several times is essential to understand how rich are the songs and to appreciate all their subtleties.

The most catchy songs are Sweet Baby Little Thing, Heaven Gets Me By, Our Time Is Gonna Come, Out In The Cold Again and the ballad Made For Your Heart, but every song has its little something that Hard Rock fans will appreciate.
And those who like good solos, you'll get exactly what you want. I found particularly impressive the one from Ride The Monkey and the storm-like intro on Till You Die. Oh and Sean McNabb also does a short but awesome bass solo on My Lust Your Fate.

Epic Obsession is the perfect record to immerse yourself into a Hard Rock universe with a great singer and one of the best guitar players of his generation.

And if you still want more, I've got good news: the first two Burning Rain albums have been out of print for some time now, but Frontiers Records is rereleasing them with bonus tracks!
