Norway: The Oslo-Bergen Railway

After an SAS flight, the trip started right here: at the train station from Oslo Airport.

The Oslo-Bergen line is know to be one of the most scenic rail journeys on earth. We had a few days off in early May, so we went to see it by ourselves.
We combined it with another memorable journey, the Flåmsbana between Myrdal and Flåm.

After the SAS flight to Oslo, we spent a night at the rock'n'roll themed Comfort Inn Hotel.
A double room was only slightly more expesive (by Norway standards) that a double room in a hostel, and we enjoyed a good service plus a perfect location.

The Rolling Stones and AC/DC pinball machines made my day!

Trains in Norway are expensive, but it's possible to get very good bargains if buying ahead. The cheapest tickets are called Minipris, and are availble online at nsb.no.

At 1222 meters above the sea level, Finse is the highest town on the Oslo-Bergen railway line.
It was also the coldest for us, at -2°C

It was unexpected and almost surreal to see people skiing, while by this time of the years most of Europe is already sunny.
