Balšića pazar, Cetinje's main square

My only option to get out of Podgorica Airport was to take a taxi.
There is 15€ fixed rate to Podgorica, but you have to negociate to go to other towns.

I asked a taxi driver how much would cost to go to Centinje. He first told me 60 euros but I managed to low it down to 35.

The place to see and be seen: Balšića pazar in Cetinje, Montenegro

I negociated very well: Later, I found that it was the right price. The fixed rate from the airport to Podgorica is 15€ and fixed taxi rate from Podgorica to Centinje is 20€… and I was driven in a Mercedez Benz, not in an ordinary city taxi.

Cetinje was the capital of Montenegro from the 15th century until 1946.

It’s a small town with some magnificent museums, houses and monuments.
The city still plays an important role in Montenegro, as some government buildings are located here.

Vlaška crkva - Church of the Virgin Mary in Cetinje, Montenegro

This church has many names. It's commonly known as Vlaška crkva, which translates Wallachia Church, but it's often called Vach Church. It's religious name is Church of the Virgin Mary.

Anyway, if people don't agree on the name, they agree to say that it is the oldest building in Cetinje, dating from around 1450. But it has been restored several times since then.

There are medieval tombstones around the church.
The fence around the Church is made of pipe guns seized in the liberation wars against the Ottoman Turks between 1876-1878.

Dvorska crkva, the Cort Church - Cetinje, Montenegro

Right in front of Cetinje Monastery stands the charming Dvorska crkva, better known as the Court Church.

This small church is of capital importance for the country. Not only it's built on the ruins of the original monastery... it's also the resting place of some of the most important Montenegro rulers.

Dvorska Church is the resting place for Ivan I Crnojević, founder of Cetinje and a national hero and ruler of the Principality of Zeta (Medieval Montenegro) until 1490.
