Tajikistan: Kulyab
|
Kulob, (also known as Kulyab or Kulab) is a very ancient city.
There are no huge ancient ruins remaining, but humans have lived here for almost 3 millennia: In 2006, Kulob celebrated its 2700th anniversary! |
|
Kulyab is a dusty town but it does have a few interesting sights.
There is one big square with a huge monument, built to celebrate the 2700th anniversary of the city, in 2006.
In fact, most landmarks of modern Kulob were built for those celebrations. |

I slept at one of the only high rise buildings in town, Hotel Kathlon (referring to the old name of the city).
It’s a new hotel where water and electricity (which means showers, bathrooms, light and heating) didn’t work on every room.
Still, it’s the best hotel in town. I didn't chose to stay there, but the guys from Hamsafar Travel booked a room.

|
Certainly, it will be a quite luxurious place when completed, but by now it’s only about clean rooms with a sober decoration.
Of course my room had something not working: It had electricity, it had water, the heating was OK... but there was no hot water, so the morning after I just went shower in the room in front of mine’s.
