The Black Lake, or Crno Jezero, is within walking distance of the town of Žabljak, in Durmitor National Park.
The first picture I ever saw from Montenegro was picture of Crno Jezero, the Black Lake.
Since then, I have always wanted to go there! |

Well, you can imagine my excitement as I was getting nearer… and my surprise when I found that the Black Lake was actually a White Lake when I visited!
It was frozen, all covered by ice with snow on the shores.
This contrasted with the sunny weather on that day. The sight was incredibly beautiful. |

The Black Lake is the biggest of the glacial lakes found in Durmitor National Park.
It’s actually of two joint lakes: Veliko Jezero and Mala Jezero, big and small lake if you prefer.
Two peaks dominate the lake: the beautiful and round Međed Peak and the Savin Kuk Peak to the left. |

I sat on the shore for about an hour, alone. Some visitors came and go, mostly by car. I remained at the same place on the shore.
I continued to trail to circle the Black Lake, passed a wooden bridge over a frozen river, and I found an even better sport to enjoy the view.
I just laid down listening to the wind and the birds, and fell asleep for about half an hour. |

The Black Lake it's certainly one of Europe's most beautiful lakes, and the mountains around are a great place to hike.
My visit to Durmitor National Park continued with the amazing Tara Canyon.
