When you're in Jericho, "Old City" really means old.
Jericho is believed to be the oldest continuously-inhabited city of the world!
Archaeologists have discovered the remains of over 20 different settlements, the first dating from 9000 BC... 11 000 years ago! Is that old enough for you? |

Erosion and time have made turned old Jericho into ruins, so you'll need your imagination to try to figure how it looked a few thousands of years ago. Anyway, the feeling of being right there, somewhere at the begining of Civilization, is unique.
Jericho's old city is called Tel Es-Sultan, which means "Sultan's Hill". It is located a couple of kilometers from the modern-day city.
The first man-made structures found on Tel Es-Sultan appear to be from 9000 BC and even earlier.
Jericho's Inhabitants from the Neolithic were hunters but learnt to domesticate a few animals. They also built the oldest wall ever found (well, what remains of it...).
