The Dome of the Rock, one of the most magnificent buildings I've ever seen.
According to the Talmud and the Old Testament, the creation of the world was created the Foundation Stone on the Temple Mount |

In front of the Dome Of The Rock you can find the Dome Of The Chain.
According to 15th Century Jerusalem author Mujadir Al-Din, its name comes from a legend involving King Solomon and goes like this.
Solomon had a divine chain which he suspended between heaven and earth to the east of the Stone, where the Dome Of the Chain now stands.
This chain was used to solve litigations between men: When two men approched, only honest one could hold the chain, as it moved out of the reach of the unjust one.
Then one day... A guy lent a few dinars to someone, but this folk refused to refund him. So the went to court, near the Dome Of The Chain.
But the debtor melted the gold and poured it into his walking stick. When he was asked by the judge to try to hold the chain, he asked the owner of the dinars to hold his stick. While having the chain in his hands, he swore that he had repaid those dinars. |
|
Then the other guy took the chain in his hands and and swore that the money hadn't been returned.
Both men could hold the divine chain...Everyone was amazed there.
And so was the chain, who didn't like to be fooled. This was the last trial: the chain returned to heaven, disgusted by the malice of men.
It's a nice story, but I'm sure it would have been easier for the debtor to just give the money back. |
