U.D.O. Steelhammer - Live From Moscow album cover

There is no secret that Udo Dirkscheider loves Russia and Eastern Europe! He plays very often in this part of the world and the audience seems really passionate. Not even the turmoil in Crimea stopped him from touring Ukraine and Russia last March!

Steelhammer - Live From Moscow was recorded on September 28th, 2013 in front of a hot crowd at the Arena Hall in Moscow. U.D.O. is an amazing live act and on this record the songs sound great and there is definitely a special confident feeling between the crowds and the band.

Nevertheless, I think it’s legitimate to ask if another double Live album and DVD from U.D.O. was necessary, only two years after the release of Live In Sofia.
The answer is YES, Live From Moscow is different from all the previous U.D.O. live albums and should definitely find its place among the fans CD collection.

First, this album showcases the band does with a brand-new line-up, since long-time guitar players Igor Gianola and Stefan Kaufmann have left the band.
Live from Moscow comes like a statement, demonstrating that the pair Andrey Smirnov and Kasperi Heikkinen can make the band sound as powerful as any fan would expect, even if their styles are rather different from the previous guitar players.
It is also the first U.D.O. album to feature a keyboard player, Ulli Köllner, which also gives a different sound.

The other fact that makes this album worthwhile is the incredible setlist full of rare songs. There are some very unusual tunes, like Stranger, Future Land, Trip To Nowhere, Azrael and Burning Heat. It’s really cool that they have revisited these buried treasures!
Live from Moscow also features no less than 6 songs from the excellent record Steelhammer, which is in my opinion one of the best U.D.O. albums of all times.
And of course there are also some all-time U.D.O. classics, like Holy and They Want War, and (only) one Accept song, the classic Metal Heart.

Steelhammer – Live From Moscow is a record that proves that the band has found a really solid line-up, able to perform even the rarest songs from U.D.O.’s catalogue.

The latest studio record is also very well represented, which means that the band keeps on moving forward and looking to the future.

Each band has a special place in the world where the shows have that something special. For Megadeth it’s Colombia and Argentina, for Iron Maiden it’s Sweden, Brasil and Chile, and for U.D.O. it’s Russia!
So seat down, relax, ad enjoy the CD and the DVD as if you were in Moscow!
