Nibbs Carter from Saxon headnaging in Graspop 2008 Time to see Saxon live at the Graspop. My second concert of the day and one of my favourite bands.

As one of the greatest metal live acts, I can't understand why they're playing so early. They have already headlined lots of festivals, including the Graspop Metal Metal Meeting in previous years.

Anyway, there were so many good bands on the first day of the Graspop and someone had to play first.
Nibbs and Doug from Saxon live at Graspop Festival, Belgium, June 2008 But Saxon is always an incredible band. And they like to play anywhere:
One day they can headline Wacken, then they're one of the opening bands of another festival.
One day they play a headlining arena show, but they can also open for Motorhead or Judas Priest.
And the best part of it: They're always good!
Biff, Nibbs and Doug from Saxon live at Graspop Festival, Belgium, June 2008 Before they started they show I was afraid that they won’t have a good sound, like Yngwie Malmsteen. But I was wrong, the sound was excellent.

Saxon came on stage playing Attila The Hun, a great recent song. And right after that came the first classic of the afternoon: Motorcycle Man. That's when everybody really starts to get crazy.
Doug Scaratt from Saxon live at Graspop Festival, Belgium, June 2008 This time Saxon didn't have the Eagle, but anyway they were playing in daylight so it doesn't matter.
3 week earlier they had it at the Sweden Rock Fest, but there they were headlining the Rock Stage and played later.

There was no lightshow but the band still had a great background with the Crusader holding the UK flag.

It was the first Saxon concert for my friend David, so he had an ear to ear smile. Just like everyone else in the audience: Even when you're not a big Saxon fan, well you can't deny that they're really good on stage.
Biff and Paul from Saxon live at Graspop Festival, Belgium, June 2008 The setlist was mainly composed by Saxon classics. What else can you play when you're in a legendary and and have only an hour to play?

Only two recent songs were heard, but they chose well: Attila The Hun and Let Me Feel Your Power.

As usual, Princess Of The Night and and Crusader were some of the highlights of the concert.
Doug, Biff and Paul from Saxon live at Graspop Festival, Belgium, June 2008 Saxon played one of the best concerts of the day!

It's the kind of band that you can see lots of times and they still can impress you.
Nibbs, Doug, Biff and Paul from Saxon live at Graspop Festival, Belgium, June 2008 After their show I had a Maes Beer and went to the Marquee 2 Stage to see Obituary for the first time...
