Sammy Hagar Sammy Hagar & Friends album cover

Some people can’t stop rocking, and fortunately Sammy Hagar is one of those! With a musical career expanding for almost 40 years, one can be sure that Sammy Hagar has made a lot of friends, and that’s what this album is about: Sammy Hagar celebrating his long career while having fun with his friends.

The frontman of Chickenfoot and former frontman of Van Halen and Montrose brings together some awesome rock stars on this memorable album. Let’s see, we’ve got his Chickenfoot bandmates Michael Anthony, Chad Smith and Joe Satriani, but isn't really unexpected. Montrose members Bill Church and Denny Carmassi are also part of the album and that’s a bigger surprise.
But wait, that’s not all! There are other guests like Kid Rock, Nancy Wilson from Heart, Neal Schon from Journey... but also country music singer Toby Keith, Blues guitarist Taj Mahal and Ronnie Dunn from the country duo Brooks & Dunn.

You got it! With all these guests it can only be a high class album where Sammy melts different styles of music that he has played over the years: Rock, Hard Rock, Country, Pop and Blues.

The album contains 10 songs, 6 new and 4 surprising covers.
The album starts with Winding Down, a bluesy and groovy song that Hagar sings with Taj Mahal. This one’s a great introduction to what comes next: an album full of rhythm and swing.

Not Going Down is the next tune, a song written for Hagar by Jay Buchanan of Rival Sons. Relax and let yourself go!

Then comes Sammy’s very own version of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus. Way less dark and groovier than the original song.

Father Sun has some delicious melodies played with accordion and mandolin, later replaces by guitars and drums during the chorus.

Knockdown Dragout is the heaviest song of the record, and for good reason: Kid Rock is the guest singer and Joe Satriani plays the solo!

A Bob Seger cover coes next, Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man, so let the party begin! One could jump this one all night long.

Bad On Fords and Chevrolets is the next one. What a funny title! It was co-written by Ronnie Dunn, who also appears as guest singer, but even if Ronnie is famous for being a country music singer, this song is pure rock!

Time to lay down and take a vacation. Jimmy Buffett cover of Margaritaville is next, and the melody is so relaxing that I could almost feel the sand under my feet.

And while we’re at the beach, why not staying there? The song All We Need Is An Island was made for that!

The last song is a cover of Going Down by Don Nix, recorded in one take on studio, so it captures a live Rock’n’Roll feeling!

So ends this fabulous record, this celebration of music. It’s not just another great Sammy Hagar record, this one is a must have for every fan of the red rocker!
