James Hetfield in Werchter

Metallica played twice in my hometown during the St Anger Tour but I didn't attend those shows because I was doing something else those nights. So, when my friends asked if wanted to see them in Belgium, well, I didn't hesitate a second!

My first Metallica show was in 1999, the second in 2003 and this one in 2007. So my joke of the day was that I hoped not having to wait 4 years to see the next show!
It's one of my favourite bands but I haven't seen them that often.

James, Lars, Robert and Kirk - Metallica in Werchter

Metallica started with Creeping Death! A great way to start the show but that wasn't all... the next song was For Whom the Bell Tolls, quickly followed by Ride The Lightning!

Woah! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! Three songs from Ride The Lightning in a row!

The stage had a background with the name of the tour: Sick Of the Studio. We were all expecting for a new song but this didn't happen.

James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich from Metallica playing at Rock Werchter Festival, Werchter

Instead we had some good surprises on the setlist, like Welcome Home (Sanitarium) and an incredible version of Disposable Heroes.

Another surprise came quickly, with the song ...And Justice For All!

I never thought even in my wildest dreams that someday I'd see Metallica playing this 9-minute epic track! Well, they did it, and it really felt good!

Kirk Hammett from Metallica in Werchter - July 1 2007

The best moment of the show was Orion. This beautiful instrumental song had never been played live before 2006.

They did a magic version and I have to admit that I drop a couple tears when they were playing it...

At the end of the song James Hetfield looked at the sky and dedicated the song to Cliff Burton... just before continuing with Fade To Black.

The rest of the show was made of classics songs and everyone at Werchter was singing loud those tunes.
But to me the show was like over after Orion.
Having heard Orion was an ecstasy, so after that they could play whatever they wanted, I was already happy and satisfied!

James and Robert from Metallica in Werchter - July 1 2007
Lars Ulrich pulling faces Metallica in Werchter - July 1 2007

Four songs from Ride The Lightning, Four songs from Master Of Puppets... That's an awesome classic show!

The Werchter Metallica gig remains one of my best concerts ever, from any band. Partly, thanks to the magic 8 minutes of Orion.
