METALLICA
Pinkpop Festival - Landgraaf, Netherlands

Pinkpop Festival is a four hour drive from home, in the Netherlands, not far from the border with Belgium.

We went there with two friends. Only for Metallica, as it was the only really interesting band for us.

Well, it seems like we weren't the only ones. There were at least 4 stages but when Metallica was about to begin, everyone at Pinkpop gathered in front of the main stage... It was the last band of the Festival and it seemed like some people had been waiting 3 days for them!
Me too... but I prefered to be at home rather than under Landgraaf's rain!

It was still daylight when Ecstasy Of Gold began... and the band came on stage with Creeping Death! Just like in Werchter 2007, it was followed by For Whom the Bell Tolls, and by Ride The Lightning!

It feels like going back in time to the Ride The Lightning Tour!

Metallica had a really giant screen on the back of the stage, so everyone could see the show from anywhere.

There were some other smaller screens on each side of the stage.

The sound was also very good.

The light show too, but as half of the concert was during daylight, lights couldn't be seen for a part of the show.

Anyway that's no problem for me: I love open air gigs, even if rain was coming and going during the whole gig.

Metallica change often their setlists, so we had a few surprises besides the first 3 songs.

These were: Devil's Dance, which is not my favourite tune but it's still good to hear live, and... the song ...And Justice For All!

Even if I heard that one before at Werchter Festival, it really feels good!

Some of the best moments of the show were Fade To Black, The Four Horsemen and Master Of Puppets.

We also had an incredible version of Bleeding Me, which is one of my favourite Metallica songs from the 90's.

During The Memory Remains it was amazing to hear the crowds singing.
A lot of people hate Load and ReLoad albums.
I personally like them, and some songs are really amazing when played live.

Quite strange, They didn't play any songs from their latest album, St Anger.

To me it's OK as I don't really like much that one.

Instead, they played 4 songs from Ride The Lightning, and that's a lot better!.

The show ended with two insane cover songs: Last Caress from The Misfits and So What from Anti-Nowhere League.

Seek & Destroy was the last tune and the band remained on stage for some 10 minutes after they finished, to thank the crowd and give some guitar pics and drum sticks.

We drove back home with our heads full of music and good recent memories. To be honest I prefered Metallica's show at Werchter in 2007, but this one was incredible too!
