Kreator are back in town to promote their excellent new album Hordes Of Chaos.

There were 3 opening bands tonight: Eluveitie, Caliban and Emergency Gate. I missed all of them but this time I did it on purpose as I don’t like any of them. According to my friends, I was right to arrive late.

Anyway, everyone here tonight was expecting Kreator as there’s been almost two years since the last time they played in Paris.

Sami Yli-Sirniö from Kreator in Paris - January 27 2008

There was not many people attending the show tonight.
Maybe some 800 fans.
We had the Elysée Montmartre in a smaller configuration, divided by a curtain.

I guess that’s because of the opening bands.

Previously Kreator have toured with Celtic Frost, Moonspell or Dark Tranquillity, which are far more popular and far better than than the bands they brought tonight…

Christian Giesler from Kreator - Paris, Elysée Montmartre - January 27 2009

They started with the song Hordes Of Chaos, and I think it’s the best Kreator opening song for a concert since Violent Revolution.
Since the beginning everyone was screaming and headbanging.

But there was a problem: the sound was not well balanced so we couldn’t hear every instrument right.
This problem was corrected after a few songs.

There was a giant screen on the back of the stage, showing images from battles, pictures from the band, and also the live audience at the Elysée Montmartre.
It’s becoming increasingly popular for bands to have videos as a background and I think it’s a great idea.

Ventor from Kreator - Live in Paris, France - January 27 2009

Sami Yli-Sirniö plays most solos and goes from side to side, headbanging with bass player Christian Giesler.

What a surprise to see Riot Of Violence sung by drummer Jürgen “Ventor” Reil.

He’s one of the fastest drummers in metal and still manages to sing a song while playing.

Mille Petrozza and Sami Yli-Sirniö in Paris - January 27 2009 - Kreator

The setlist was perfect; we even had two songs from my favourite album that weren’t previously played in the Netherlands (according to what I saw on the Internet): People Of The Lie and Coma Of Souls.

I won’t complaint, but I still demand When The Sun Burns Red: I’ve never heard it live and I think it’s one of Kreator’s best tunes.
Other great songs like Enemy Of God, Tormentor and Warcurse were played.

Mille Petrozza Live in Paris - January 2009 Kreator have a stable line-up since a few years now, and I guess that’s one of the clues for them to be so good on stage.

Mille Petrozza addresses the crowd screaming as if he was dying! He seems insane when he shouts “Paris, it’s time to raise the Flag of…”, and then the crowd responds “Haaaaaaaaate”.
One funny thing is when he counts up to four in German (Ein, Zwei, Drei, Vier!) to start a song.

Another funny moment came when Mille introduces the song Pleasure To Kill: “You know, once a journalist asked me if when I said to the crowd to kill each other I meant it. I answered “no”, but you know that the answer is YEEEEEEEEES!”.
Mille Petrozza from Kreator - Live in Paris, France - January 27 2009 He really knows how to get the audience moshing and headbanging. A “French-style moshpit” as he said when introducing the song Betrayer.

And by the way, I’ve never seen so many people moshing in this venue.
I had the impression that the whole pit got into one single pogo.

I told a friend about this and he answered that only at The Exploited concert in 1996 it was like this.
Mille Petrozza and Sami Yli-Sirniö in Paris - January 27 2009 - Kreator Kreator conquered again Paris with a great show.

After the concert some people were saying that nowadays that Slayer has lost some energy, Kreator are he best Thrash Metal live act.

Well, I’ve never seen a bad Slayer concert and Slayer’s 2008 show in Paris was amazing. I only agree partially, but I really think that Kreator is one the best Thrash metal bands in the world.
