Time for the headliner of Thursday at the Sweden Rock 2008: Judas Priest. As I missed the “Angel of Retribution” Tour, the last time I saw the band was during the Reunion Tour in 2004. I couldn’t wait to see them again, Judas Priest is one of my favourite bands. The stage has huge, with a great light show, lots of stairs and the face of Nostradamus as portrayed on the cover of the album, with light coming out of his eyes. The sound was loud but clear, and I was very excited about that show. Unfortunately, Judas Priest is often “all or nothing”. There was something wrong about this concert, just like the last time I saw them. |

Maybe it was the sound, I don’t know, but there was something missing. The energy, the punch… The first time I saw Judas Priest was at the beginning of the Demolition Tour, at the Gods of Metal Festival 2001 in Milan, Italy. I had exactly the same impression. Then I saw them a couple of times in the following weeks and those were really great and amazing concerts. |

The other Judas Priest concert where I felt the energy was missing was again at the Gods of Metal festival, but in 2004 in Bologna, during the reunion tour. Coincidentally it was also the beginning of the tour, and some friends saw them later and told me that the following shows were better... And this time, well, the Nostradamus tour was also starting so, I guess for Judas Priest it’s just a matter of getting in the mood for the tour. |

Besides that, the setlist was amazing! The played older songs that haven’t been played for years, or even decades! Hell Patrol, Eat Me Alive, Rock Hard Ride Free… I can’t imagine a Judas Priest concert with this setlist but with good sound and energy! It really would be something great, so I’m looking forward to the Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium at the end of June. |
