Performance: 5/5
Setlist: 3,5/5
Lights: 4,5/5
Sound: 4/5
Atmosphere: 5/5
After a long travel day all the way from Serbia, Iron Maiden was the first band I saw performing at the Hellfest. I completed my "Seven Deadly Sins" tonight, as this one was the last show of the 7 Maiden shows I saw on the Maiden England Tour.
Unsurprisingly, everyone at Hellfest wanted to see Maiden so the Mainstage 1 was
packed with almost 50 000 fans. I couldn't get any close to the stage, but the atmosphere was wild everywhere.
Bruce was in a really good mood today and was very talkative. During the Maiden show, France and Switzerland were playing football at the World Cup in Brazil, a game that France won 5 - 2. bruce told the crowds each time France scored a goal to make everyone scream. But he also loves making jokes, so he also gave Switzerland a couple of extra goals to see our reaction.
The setlist was shortened again by one song, which is a shame. When the 2014 tour began, everyone was ranting about Wratchild replacing The Clairvoyant. But now that they're playing one song less, we were praying to get one song back... even Wratchild!
Anyway,
everyone enjoyed those classic Maiden songs, perhaps longing that it would be the last time we hear some of them.
There's some sort of a love story between Iron Maiden and France that makes that shows in this country are always memorable. Still, I experienced some magic Maiden concerts the weeks before and I have to say that this one was the least good of all Maiden shows I saw this summer. I think the atmosphere at smaller shows is better as everyone is more focused on the moment.
Don't get me worng, the concert at Hellfest was amazing, but something was missing to make it magic.
After Maiden I saw Slayer from the distance (it was great, but I couldn't take any descent pictures), and then Sabaton. Click here for Sabaton live at Hellfest pictures and review.
