Tony Iommi from Heaven And Hell on the screens at Wacken

Heaven And Hell were one of the headliners of Wacken 2009.

Even though if the were scheduled to play only for an hour and 15 minutes (from 22:45 to midnight according to the official Running Order, and they were on time).

Well, these guys are still the masters.

Ronnie James Dio sings like a god, and he’s the member of the band that moves the most on stage.
Absolutely incredible.

Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler don’t move much on stage, but their presence is enough to inspire respect.

About Vinny Appice, he uses all of his monstrous drumkit and I really love his playing.

Heaven And Hell on stage at Wacken About the stage, they had an amazing light show, like all the other bands playing at Wacken by night.

But I can’t understand why they didn’t put the gargoyles on stage… Wacken’s stage was larger than the one at the Gods Of Metal, so there was plenty of room for them (Click here for pictures of Heaven And Hell’s Gargoyles).

So, had this been my first Heaven And Hell show this summer, I’d say that it was perfect.

But the was the fourth, and the previous ones were almost exactly the same.

Tony Iommi in Wacken

Same setlist and even almost the same speeches.

Only the Hellfest’s setlist was shorter because there were no encores.

That can be frustrating...

Dio plays often at summer festivals and I guess he knows that some fans go to more than one show.

Moreover Heaven And Hell were headliners, and fans expect surprises from headliners.

OK, Iron Maiden always plays the same setlist on tour, but at least Bruce Dickinson's speeches are spontanious. Also Maiden play for an hour and 45 minutes.
Same for AC/DC.

But what’s even more frustrating is that Heaven And Hell have recently played shows in the US lasting almost two hours, with 18 songs, and including tunes like Lonely Is The Word, Voodoo or the highly demanded The Sign of The Southern Cross.

Still, it was a very good concert. But I think I could expect better from Heaven And Hell.
