Gilby Clarke live in Savigny, near Paris

To be honest, I never imagined to see Gilby Clarke's band on stage one day.
I saw him on the Guns'n'Roses days, 20 years earlier, but I never thought I'll get to see his solo band sometime.

Well, in the last year several Guns'n'Roses former members have played around: Duff, Steven Adler, and of course Slash. So a Gilby Clarke show was an unexpected but great news!

Live in Savigny, near Paris: Gilby Clarke

Gilby didn't write any Guns'n'Roses songs, and he only plays on one calbum, the Spaghetti Incident album.
But he was part of most of the Use Your Illusion Tour, thus being exposed to TVs and magazines from all over the world and Guns'n'Roses rhythm guitar player.

He can even be seen on the Use Your Illusion live in Tokyo DVD's and for many people. If Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler are original Guns'n'Roses members, Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke are part of the golden age of Guns'n'Roses.

But do't expect Gilby Clarke to rely on his past as a former Guns'n'Roses member.

He only played one GNR song on his setlist, which was It's So Easy.
Although, other covers included Bob Dylan's Knocking On heaven's Doors and the Rolling Stones'Wild Horses, two songs that have also been covered by Guns'n'Roses.

Gilby was the singer and the only guitar player tonight. By his side, we found the rhythm section of Badmouth, the opening band.
Chris LeMon on bass and the young Triple B on drums did
a good job and gave the songs a nice atmosphere.

And what about Gilby himself? Well let me tell you that he's got a really good voice, and his guitar playing was fantastic.
His guitar had a great and warm sound. It could sound bluesy, but also heavy.

Gilby Clarke: live at L'Empreinte in Savigny Le Temple

It was weird to see Gilby playing the solos from It's So Easy and Knoking On heaven's Doors, because when you think about GNR playing this songs, it's the Slash solo that comes to your mind. But he did great! Actually he played a lot of beautiful and heavy solos tonight. No doubt that Gilby is a reat guitarist, very underrated.

He told us that he was very happy to come back to France, and he said that he was very pleased that this time he came with his own music, for the first time. Gilby played here before with Guns'n'Roses and with Slash's Snakepit.

Sammy Hagar enjoying some 1664 Beer Gilby played a great version of Tijuana Jail, introduced as his own true story.
After that, he came back on stage all alone and played a very emotive version of Wild Horses on his own. No doubt that this is one of his favourite tunes ever. As he said, "I got married to that song".
He asked us to show our mobile phones, as nobody shows lighters anymore during slow songs.

Chris and Triple B got back on stage and the band played one more song: Dead Flowers, another Rolling Stones cover.

That was it. Not even an hour and 10 minutes. That was so short! I would have loved to hear so many other tunes but the show was over.

Once again we've got the confirmmation: bands from Los Angeles don't play long gigs, just like Cinderella, Poison, Mötley Crüe or W.A.S.P.
At least we're very lucky that Guns'n'Roses is the exception to that rule!

After the show Gilby went down and met the fans that were waiting for them. He took his time and demonstrated to be a real gentleman that respects his fans.

Well, it's good to know that Gilby Clarke is still rocking and touring the world.
If he plays near your town, don't hesitat and go rock with him!
