Here it is! The new record from the German Guitar Hero Axel Rudi Pell.
What I love about Axel Rudi Pell is that it is a real band, not a guitar-hero with his backing band.
His line-up has been stable for a while and the chemistry between the band members is there, you can hear it on the songs.
But, some changes have to happen and, for the first time in 15 years, there’s been a line-up change in Axel Rudi Pell’s band. Mike Terrana is gone, and… who is here to replace him? The new drummer is no other than the mighty Bobby Rondinelli, known for his work with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Blue Oÿster Cult, Riot, Quiet Riot, and other legendary rock and metal bands.
I think I don’t need to tell you that the drum tracks sound really powerful.
Into The Storm starts with an Intro called The Inquisitional Procedure. I have to admit that I don’t like the sound of those keyboards playing that melody, so when I first listened to that intro, I was afraid that the rest of the record could disappoint me.
Hopefully, that wasn’t the case! After less than two minutes we hear a powerful guitar riff, the song Tower Of Lies begins… and that’s a great starter! The chorus is really catchy and the solo is magnificent! I don’t doubt this one will become a favourite on stage!
Long Way To Go comes next, and it’s a delicious Hard Rock piece. The verse is driven by a catchy melody on keyboards, and the chorus is incredibly catchy. Johnny’s vocals also sound amazing on that one. High Above is another song with an unforgettable chorus.
Burning Chains, a fast song where Bobby Rondinelli demonstrates all his talent! Changing Times is the other fast song on the record, and has a nice melody and a darker atmosphere.
Of course, no Axel Rudi Pell album is complete without a couple of ballads, and the ones on this album are both very enjoyable: When Truth Hurts and Hey Hey My My.
While first one is a love song, the latter is a very emotive about Rock musicians who have passed away. Like Johnny sings: Rock'nRoll will never die!
And finally, the last song is an epic 10-minute piece bearing the name of the album. It has exotic oriental elements, slow riffs, and several changes.
The song goes through different atmospheres, always keeping a dramatic and mysterious side.
Into The Storm is a classic Axel Rudi Pell album, with some heavy songs, rock songs, ballads, and an epic tune.
I must say that I haven’t enjoyed an Axel Rudi Pell album that much since Mystica.
The band will be touring Europe throughout the year to promote Into The Storm, with a special show with Steeler at Bang Your Head!!! Festival in Germany.
Be sure to check the dates, it will certainly be something special!
