After Deep Purple, time for the headliners of the second day of the Hellfest: the mighty Aerosmith!
After 3 years of touring, they finally brought the Global Warming Tour to Europe, and the Hellfest was one of the last dates of the trek.
Seeing Aerosmith on stage is an incredible experience, and from the beginning I know that this was going to be an unforgettable show!
Back In The Saddle, Train Kept A-Rollin', Eat the Rich, Love in an Elevator... Woah, that's a high class start! And they didn't stop there... Aside from two songs from their latest record Music From Another Dimension!, the whole thing was a succession of hits! They even honoured The Beatles with a cover version of Come Together.
But it wasn't all about the setlist, the performance was incredible, musically and visually. They had a great lightshow, a giant screen and they even brought a ramp to enlarge the stage and be closer to the fans.
Not forgetting that Steven Tyler remains one of the best frontmen in Rock'n'Roll, and Joe Perry can't stand still when the spotlights are upon him. He also took the lead vocals on the song Freedom Fighter.
The band loves to jam
and to make to minor changes to the songs and this is great because every concert is different. But today there was a special atmosphere in the air, and one could actually see that the band was having fun on stage.
Perhaps because the summer officially begings on June 21, but this date is also Joey Kramer's birthday! A a girl brought a cake for him on stage, over 45 000 fans sang Happy Birthday, first in English and then in French.
The band left the stage after Mama Kin, one of my favourite Aerosmith songs, but quickly came back for the encores, Dream On and Sweet Emotion.
The show ended under a confetti rain covering the whole stage, as the band thanked the audience and the crowds screamed for more.
What Aerosmith did today was more than just a concert. It was a lesson in Rock'n'Roll!
After their show, I went to check Carcass' death metal at The Altar Stage. Click here for Carcass live at Hellfest live report.
