Backyard Babies play quite often in Paris, but this was the first time I was seeing them.
I can’t remember why I haven’t been to their previous shows, but nevermind, it was time to discover them as a live act.
The Locomotive was fairly full tonight, with maybe 500 people attending the show. The opening band was Bullet, a hard Rock Swedish group. |
|
The first thing that impressed me was the merchandise stand.
They had everything (or almost) with the Backyard Babies logo on it: different shirts, shoes, towels, books, pins, Limited Edition CDs, caps, hats… I’m sure that if they were a bigger band they’ll do like Kiss.

Since the start of the concert they were good, really good.
They had a very clear sound and a customized stage: the amps and the bass drum were decorated with red lights. It looked really good and, it almost felt like Christmas ;-)
But Bullet did an amazing show before them, so at the beginning we weren’t really in the mood for the Backyard Babies.
It took us maybe 3 or 4 songs to get into the ambiance and really start to enjoy their show.
But once we were in, there was nothing wrong to say about them!

Dregen is the man of the show. I don’t know where he gets all his energy.
During the whole concert he didn’t stop moving, dancing and headbanging, yet playing all the riffs perfectly.
Just to see him live it’s worth to go to a Backyard Babies show. No doubt, he gives it all.

Drummer Peder Carlsson is so funny, as he is always pulling faces as he plays. |
|
Nicke Borg has a good communication with the audience, and when he’s not singing, he goes with his guitar to both sides of the stage to play solos and riffs by his bandmates.
Johan Blomqvist doesn’t move that much, but he gives a lot of groove to the songs, and was often smiling to the girls of the first rows. |
|
By the middle of the show and until the end, everyone in the hall was singing the lyrics and asking for more.
The band played a lot of classics from the album Making Enemies Is Good, but many songs from their latest record, Backyard Babies. |
|
Well, at the end it was great concert and I will come back when the Backyard Babies hit Paris again.
But after the show, it was Bullet’s songs that I had in my head.
It doesn’t happen quite often, but this time the opening act did a better performance than the headliner.
A great Rock n'Roll night. |
